G&T Radio Station
Name of School: Churchfield Primary Contact person Kate Savage - katesavage1974@hotmail.com
The focus of the project is:
    1.    What skills do the children need to set up and run a school radio station and how can we support them in developing these skills?
Churchfield School will lead and develop a radio station at Churchfield. G&T children from Houndsfield will then become involved in putting together radio shows and presenting on the station. Then eventually become involved in setting up and running a radio station at Houndsfield School.
    1.    How can we support the continuing professional development of Houndsfield staff as they implement procedures to improve attainment of more able children?
Churchfield School will lead and initially work with the inclusion manager to implement procedures to raise attainment for the more able pupils. Support will be given to develop policies and guidelines, deliver INSET to staff, monitor and evaluate teaching etc.
Describe how your proposed project is innovative and explain how it ensures the development of excellence?
    1.    We are aiming to create a learning community where the curriculum is designed around the children, interests and strengths. The radio station will allow children with gifts and talents in each curriculum area to develop and showcase their abilities whilst also providing them with the opportunity to learn skills in new fields. In addition to developing the skills of children who have already been identified as Gifted and Talented in current curriculum areas, this project would facilitate the identification of children with gifts and talents across a more diverse spectrum of interests as there would be scope to commission a wide range of works.
    2.    Churchfield Primary School has sound policies and practice for raising attainment of its more able pupils and is to be assessed in March for the NACE Challenge Award. We will therefore disseminate the good practice which will then support raising attainment in pupils from Houndsfield School.
    3.    What is the time frame/plan of action for your project?
    1.    Begin July 2008 and have the station up and running by the summer term 2009.
    4.    July 2008 – Set up working party
    5.    Autumn term 2008 – purchase equipment and set up venue
    6.    Spring term 2009 – Receive training on equipment and compiling broadcasts
    7.    Summer term 2009 – Broadcast in school, work with Houndsfield pupils to train to make radio broadcasts.
    8.    2. Spring term 2009, Inclusion managers meet to carry out an audit of provision for raising attainment of more able pupils, then devise a plan of action to further develop attainment.
What are your process of evidence collection and evaluation to measure impact (methodology)?
1. Initially interview the pupils to find out their views on the skills required to set up a radio station.
Implement action research spirals to plan, act, review, re-plan etc.
Towards the end of the project re-interview children to ascertain their views on the skills they have acquired. Carry out an observation of the children working collaboratively on the radio station.
2. SATs levels and teacher assessment levels of pupils at Houndsfield School. Lesson
What outcomes are you expecting – how could these be demonstrated/shared?
    1.    The children are able to identify skills needed to set up a sustainable student led project. The children are able to work collaboratively to set up, run and sustain a radio station. The radio station is successful and plans are in place for the future.
    2.    Houndsfield School are able to implement, sustain and improve procedures for raising attainment.
