Our focus is transition from KS1 to KS2 and we are partnered with Eldon Infants with and emphasis on sharing assessment for learning between Y2 and Y3.
Lead teacher is Heather Lane
Y3 Junior teachers have been released each week to team teach and/or work with Y2 classes and teachers. Groups from each school have been visiting each other to take part in learning projects.
Describe how your proposed project is innovative and explain how it ensures the development of excellence?
Previous transition work emphasised social needs, listening and speaking, gifted and talented, settling into the juniors etc. This project addresses the real problems of the transition of learning from KS1 to KS2 in separate Infant and Junior schools and following a summer holiday.
What is the time frame/plan of action for your project?
Phase 1: May to July Junior teachers work in Infants Y2 for 1 day per week
Phase 2: Autumn term release time for Y3 teachers to continue planning more personalised learning for their class pupils. Y2 and Y3 staff to evaluate project.
What are your process of evidence collection and evaluation to measure impact (methodology)?
Baseline collection of data at KS1 in Y2 including work sampling. KS1 SATs levels and reading scores.
QCA levels and reading scores at beginning and end of Y3. Teacher questionnaires.
What outcomes are you expecting – how could these be demonstrated/shared?
Greater understanding by Y3 teachers of learning needs of new pupils.
Further developed transitional arrangements between Y2 and Y3 teachers.
Smooth transition for pupils from Infants to Juniors in terms of settling in, social and emotional needs.
Good practice to be adopted for future years. We are committed to sharing our project and evaluation with other schools in the partnership.
