Raising Standards in Reading & Writing at End of KS2 / G&T
The focus of the project is:
1. Will use of the Accelerated Reading Programme and the Alan Peat INSET programme improve the standards of reading and writing among more able pupils in Yrs 5&6?
2. Wilbury Primary will be the lead school.
3. Oakthorpe will share their experience of the AR prog so we can avoid potential pitfalls and St John & St James, who are at the early stages of developing their Literacy G&T provision, will be able to join the INSET.
Describe how your proposed project is innovative and explain how it ensures the development of excellence? Previous reading and writing initiatives have been aimed at less able pupils or those just below national expectations. This will be the first time an initiative has focused on the development of higher order reading and writing skills and the subsequent pursuit of excellence.
What is the time frame/plan of action for your project?

September 2008 – May 2009 – Implement initiatives
May09-July09 – Data collection and evaluation
1. What are your process of evidence collection and evaluation to measure impact (methodology)? 1. Regular school assessment procedures i.e. termly tracking & progress meetings
2. External marking of Yrs 4 and 5 QCA and SATs,
3. Teacher assessment
4. Informal evidence e.g. pupils on-line work in the Accelerated Reading Programme (and the on-lineTeachers’ Feedback in the same programme), examples of creative writing, pupil interviews and questionnaires, parent questionnaires.
5. Teacher feedback from INSET
What outcomes are you expecting – how could these be demonstrated/shared?

2. Reduction in number of children identified as having potential in English but under-achieving.
